WINTER IS COMING! EASTBOURNE GARDENING - RYEFIELD GARDENING

DAN'S BLOG:

Some advice to Eastbourne Gardeners for the winter period

What with Autumn upon us, it’s now time to get a number of jobs done to put your garden

to bed for the winter. Now is a great time for planting frost hardy shrubs so they can get

their roots down over the winter ready for Spring.

Also, any hedges can be trimmed now as they have stopped growing and the sap is not

rising. It’s also a great time to prune trees.

At Eastbourne Gardening - We offer a free fence check so the health of your fence can be looked at and any potential repairs recommended.

Your compost bins should have been emptied and spread so you can re-fill with this

years leaf drop. If you don’t have a compost bin, using a black bin liner with holes in

then leaving them in a cold dark place so they can rot down over the next year works

just as well, albeit a slightly sore sight.

It is also a great time to turf as you will save a fortune on water as the weather will do

the hard work for you! Remember that this summer has been exceptionally hot and has

dried out a lot of lawns causing high weed growth due to non-thriving grass, this can be

dealt with by using a lawn treatment, we have various products to suit your situation

if required.

Wrap up warm and remember to move your more fragile plants indoors before the first frost!!
